Fieldmasters Care Guide for Your New Artificial Turf
Congratulations on your new low-maintenance outdoor space! Artificial turf offers a beautiful, green lawn without the constant mowing and watering. But to keep it looking its best, there are a few simple steps you can take for regular care.
Keeping it Clean
- Brush it Up: Once a week, use a stiff-bristled broom to brush against the grain of the turf. This lifts dirt and debris, keeping the blades standing tall. Avoid metal bristles, which can damage the fibers.
- Rinse and Repeat: Weekly rinsing with a garden hose removes dust, pollen, and pet dander. In rainy climates, this might be less frequent. If you have pets and they are regularly using the turf as their bathroom, you may want to make it more frequent, especially during hot and dry spells
- Debris Duty: After storms or windy days, remove fallen leaves, twigs, and other debris that can accumulate and cause matting. A leaf blower can be a big help here. If you use a rake, make sure that it’s not a metal rake, and in this case, rake in the direction of the grain, not against it.
- Spot Treatment: For spills, act fast! Blot up any liquids and rinse the area thoroughly with water. For tougher stains, a mild soap and water solution usually does the trick. For stubborn pet accidents, a vinegar and water mix can be used (you can check with us for specific cleaning product recommendations).
Maintaining the Look
- Infill Matters: We have installed some sand infill in your turf, that helps the blades stand upright and provides drainage. You may want to replenish it every few years to maintain pile height and drainage.
- Sun's Out, Turf's Fine: Artificial turf is designed to withstand sunlight, but extreme heat can cause the turf to flatten. To revive the blades, simply brush them against the grain.
- Heavy is the Burden: Avoid placing extremely heavy objects on your turf for extended periods. While it's strong, too much weight can compress the fibers and make them more difficult to revive.
Enjoying Your Investment
- Walk All Over It: Artificial turf is made for walking, playing, and relaxing on. Enjoy your low-maintenance yard without worry!
- Pet Paradise: With proper cleaning, artificial turf can be a pet-friendly space. Just remember to pick up solid waste promptly and hose down regularly to prevent odors from urine.
- Fire Safety: While artificial turf is fire-resistant, always keep open flames and grills away from your turf to avoid any melting or damage.
Putting Green Perfection
- Speed it Up: We use a sand infill to mimic the feel of a real green. To maintain putting speed, you might need to top-dress the infill periodically.
- Roll with It: We used a turf roller to further adjust the putting speed of your green. Rolling it on a sunny day can help the fibers stand up straighter, creating a faster putting surface.
- Mildew Matters: While artificial turf resists mold and mildew growth, long-standing debris (e.g. wet leaves) can potentially create a mildew problem over time. Good drainage through the turf and base also mitigate this concern. However, if you notice mildew growth, a diluted bleach solution (50% bleach, 50% water) can be used for spot treatment.
- Cup Care: Putting green cups can trap debris. Regularly remove any leaves or balls that get stuck to prevent tears or damage to the cup. Also, rinse out the cups to prevent a sand build-up that can cause the pole to get stuck in the hole.
By following these simple steps, you can ensure your outdoor artificial turf stays beautiful and functional for years to come.
