How To Keep Your Artificial Turf Clean With Pets
More and more homeowners in Toronto are making the switch to artificial turf. Not only does having an artificial grass front or backyard save you money on water, but it offers homeowners the chance to have a beautifully groomed lawn without any of the labour.
In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, it seems like almost everyone in Toronto has a dog. You might be wondering whether artificial grass is really for pets. At Feildmasters, we have been experts in the artificial turf industry here in Toronto for over 30 years. We are here to say that YES! Artificial grass is great for pets!
Artificial Grass And Doggy Pee
At Fieldmaster, we sell Pet Turf that is specially designed to withstand your animal’s daily activities. Our artificial grass for pets has a high-quality urethane backing mimicking the way natural grass would drain rainwater. Your dog can pee as he pleases on the artificial grass, and our pet turf effortlessly drains the liquid so that no lingering odours occur.
During a consultation with a member of the Feildmasters Team, make sure to mention that you have pets. We can help recommend the perfect artificial grass for animals and add a turf deodorizer or a membrane installed between the turf and ground to offer more airflow.
Artificial turf and Doggy Doo Doo
Of course, if your dog is going to pee, it is also going to poo. The best way to maintain your pet turf is to try and scoop up and dispose of your dog’s feces right away. The sooner you scoop the poop, the easier it is to clean.
We recommend taking a couple of seconds to hose down the affected area for large animals to ensure no residual bacteria is still lingering.
If you get busy or forget to scoop up your dog’s poop for a couple of days or longer, it won’t be as easy to clean up after your pet. This is true for both natural and artificial grass.
Dealing With Hardened Feces
When you find dried doggy doo this what you need to do:
- Spray Feces to loosen it
- Pick up
- Spray again with a hose
- Make a 1:1 solution of water and vinegar
- Spray the area with the solution
- Then use some paper towel and spray to remove any lingering pieces
- Spray area again with a hose
Another option would be to purchase an artificial pet turf deodorizer. However, vinegar really works just as great. Bonus that is non-toxic and safe for both pets and children.
If You Notice Pet Odor From Your Pet Turf
While this occurrence will be rare, you may find one day that your artificial grass is giving off a pee-smelling odour. This can happen if you have not been diligent in washing your grass after your pet uses the washroom or if you have had the pet turf for several years.
Luckily there is an easy fix!
Remove Odour From Pet Turf By:
- Hosing Area with hose
- Make 1:1 solution of water and vinegar
- Spray solution
- Rinse area with a garden hose
